Carols from the ‘Saints’

Pupils from St James’ Infant School and St Barnabas School, Tunbridge Wells visited Tunbridge Wells Care Centre, Kent this week to serenade the residents with a selection of traditional carols for Christmas.

The girls from Tunbridge Wells Grammar School also visited the nursing home bringing Christmas cheer to the residents on the dementia unit. Everyone was bubbling with Christmas spirit as the strains of The First Noel and Hark the herald Angels delighted the attentive audience.

‘All staff at the nursing home believe that maintaining links with the local community is a vital part of the excellent care we have to offer...’ said General Manager Mrs Sandra Wilmshurst ‘...entering the care home environment can be a very challenging situation for people to deal with, particularly when individual identity and independence can be lost at a time when specialist nursing care is of paramount importance’.

Carol singing with people from our community is just one way we are bringing festivities and a warm atmosphere into our home. 

Activities take place all year round and range from craft and cooking sessions through to regular church services. Garden parties take place in the tranquil and secure garden where residents families are encouraged to not only attend but to be a part of our everyday life. This was evident during the Spring and Summer when relatives and friends joined us to help grow our own vegetables and salads.

‘Christmas is an emotive time for everybody so we were delighted to open our doors to the schools’ said Bill Blackford and Nell Mellerick, Activity Manager and Activity Co-ordinator for the 70-bed, Tunbridge Wells Care Home which also has its own Chapel, Pub, Sensory Room and compact Cinema.
