Origami delights at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre

The ancient art of Japanese paper folding was demonstrated and actively engaged in by some of the willing residents at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre, Kent, this week.

The activity turned out to be interesting and enjoyable on many levels. Residents at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre are used to a wide variety of activities, and enjoyed either taking part or observing; they enjoyed the process of making something and having a result at the end; they also benefited from the motor skills exercise of really using their fingers and muscles in a creative and positive way. There was also much interest in the choice of brightly coloured paper.

The calm atmosphere of this activity was ideal for residents to really apply themselves to the sometimes intricate and precise folding. After the session, everything that had been made was displayed on a wall in the corridor as a constant visual reminder of the afternoon.

Manager Sandra WIlmshurst was delighted at the new piece of 'wall art' and many visitors have commented on this unusual and interesting addition.
