Wow what a Team and what a cheerful house to walk into despite the adversities some of the residents were suffering!

Jubilee Celebrations 2012

Friends, family and invited guests joined residents at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre on Sunday 3rd June for a wonderful day of celebration. Residents had made their own decorations which were added to with more bunting, flags and balloons. Despite the weather, celebrations started at 11:00am with songs from the end of the war provided by a WAAF, resplendent in her military attire. All the residents present on the first floor were able to sing along with the songs and enjoy them heartily despite coping with dementia.

A dance display at noon from local school, Dance Consortium, culminated in the presentation of HM Armed Forces Veteran’s badges to two of our residents who served in the ATS. They were presented by members of the Royal British Legion. A wonderful lunch had been prepared by our new Chef Robert Hale and during the lunch, musical entertainment was provided by our own Activity Manager Bill Blackford and Andy Couchman, who was a member of the original cast of Mamma Mia – they had a battle royal of fifties music called ‘Swing in to Rock and Roll’!

In the afternoon over tea and homemade cakes, residents from all floors were entertained once again with songs from the six decades the Queen has been on the throne.

The success of the event was down to all of our staff taking an active role in the day. We extend a big thank you to them as the street party atmosphere made it a great day for all of our residents!
